anthony_boschExactly one year after Major league Baseball issued a series of suspensions as a result of the Biogenesis scandal, including that of Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, the DEA conducted a series of arrests on charges against former clinic operator Anthony Bosch and others associated with the operation.

Shortly after 6 am Tuesday morning, DEA agents began arriving at the regional office in Ft Lauderdale, Florida with handcuffed suspects. Bosch and his attorney drove to the office to surrender to the DEA authorities.

In a report given by Special Agent in Charge Mark R. Trouville, Bosch was among 10 arrests made Tuesday morning as a result of a 2 year “Operation Strikeout” investigation.

Among those arrested Tuesday is Yuri Sucart, cousin of Alex Rodriguez.

Federal investigators have said the focus of this operation is not centered around professional athletes, but simply the illegal actions of Bosch and his associates.

Bosch has had his name in the news for years as the head of the largest performance enhancing drug scandal in the history of professional sports. To date, close to 20 MLB players, connected to Biogenesis, have been suspended as a result of testing positive or having their doping regimens be revealed through clinic records. Other than A-Rod, marquee names Bartolo Colon, Melkey Cabrera, Nelson Cruz, and Ryan Braun have faced suspensions.

At least 25 players, either by name or nickname, appear in clinic records, although the MLB did not have enough evidence to pursue suspensions on some of them.

This investigation was meant to determine if Bosch acted as a physician (for which he is not licensed), how the clinic administered HGH, steroids, and other illegal drugs, as well as whether teenagers were provided with performance enhancing drugs.

With the arrests of Bosch and his associates, the DEA appears to have won a notable victory in keeping PEDs out of high schools, colleges, and professional stadiums alike.
