Arizona Cardinals John Abraham To Report To Camp

on

abrahamVeteran outside linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals will make his first appearance at Cardinals’ training camp on Thursday.

The NFL’s active leader in sacks has missed the first 3 weeks of Cardinals training camp for an undisclosed reason. Abraham was arrested on June 29th, however, and charged with driving under the influence when Atlanta police found him passed out behind the wheel of his car at an intersection in the Atlanta suburbs and unable to complete the field sobriety tests with any success.

The Cardinals organization has declined to comment as to whether or not the reason for Abraham’s absence from camp and the arrest on DUI charges are in fact related to one another.

On Wednesday, Cardinals GM Steve Keim once again declined to comment about the reason for Abraham’s absence during camp.

With Abraham back, he has 26 days to help prepare the Cardinals defense, and himself, for the Cardinals regular season opener when the Cardinals play the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football.

The Cardinals next preseason game will be against the Minnesota Vikings in Minnesota on Saturday night in TCF Bank Field, where the Vikings will be playing for the next 2 years until the construction on the Viking’s new stadium is complete.

Abraham started 13 games for the cardinals last season, appearing in all 16, and he accumulated 31 tackles, of which 11.5 were sacks. In addition to his sack production, Abraham forced 4 fumbles and in general is an important leader for the Cardinals defense.

His return, the Cardinals hope, will help the Cardinals remain competitive in a very tough NFC West where they must compete against the likes of the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and stedily improving St. Louis Rams.

with less than a month until the regular season kicks off, the wait to see Abraham’s impact won’t be a long one.
