Michigan vs App state
The Appalachian State Mountaineers are set to open the season against the University of Michigan Wolverines at noon on Saturday, as both teams kick off their 2014 campaigns.

-Keys for Appalachian State Mountaineers:

Appalachian State, playing out of the Sun Belt conference, finished last season with a 4-8 overall record, finished 4-4 within the conference. The Wolverines play in the Big Ten conference and finished last season with a 7-6 overall record, finishing 3-5 in the Big Ten and winning 1 of the 3 games the squad played against teams ranked in the top 25. Michigan is looking to enjoy a bounceback year and reassert themselves as true contenders on a national scale and improve within the conference. The Wolverines finished last season ranked 47th in overall scoring offense, and 67th in overall scoring defense. Their mediocre performance in the FBS rankings is certainly a contributing factor for their mediocre record in last season. Appalachian State is not only looking to bounce back and improve their performance from last year, but repeat their success from 2007 when the Mountaineers overcame the Wolverines in Ann Arbor to open the season. The 34-32 upset victory over Wolverines, who entered the season ranked number 5, shocked the college football world, and to this day, remains one of the most memorable upsets in recent years. While the Mountaineers would love to repeat as Cinderellas, the odds are certainly not in their favor. The Wolverines want to prove to themselves that they can be competitors this season and will do anything they can to avoid being humiliated at the hands of Appalachian State again. I predict the Wolverines will pull off a convincing victory over their Sun Belt foe, beating the Mountaineers by a score of 31-7 and helping avenge the loss they took on opening day 7 years ago.
