Bucks Jabari Parker Looking To Avoid Bust Status

Jabari ParkerMilwaukee Bucks Jabari Parker is focused on not becoming a bust, a somewhat strange focus for the 2nd overall pick in the NBA draft this season. More often then not, 1st round draft picks, especially those at the top of the draft like Parker, are full of potential and can work themselves into careers as superstars in the league, that said Parker is not mistaken in his belief that there have been 2nd overall picks that have become busts in the past.

Parker is very aware of the amount of 2nd overall picks that have become busts in the NBA, and busts like that usually cost plenty of jobs in a teams front office if they don’t work out, and Parker is focusing on ensuring that doesn’t happen to he and the Milwaukee Bucks. Parker is focused on working hard to earn his status as an elite player in the NBA.

“There’s been a lot of second pick busts,” Parker said Saturday morning, at the grand opening of the redesigned Jordan space inside Nike Chicago. “I’m just trying not to be that bust. Everyday that I step on the court, I just remind myself that I have a long ways to go. If I want to be one of those guys in the first tier of the NBA, like a LeBron, like a Kobe, like a [Blake Griffin], then I have to have that mentality starting off from the ground, and work my way up.”

Over the last 15 seasons, there are really only 2 players taken 2nd overall that have immediately developed into all stars and can’t be defined as busts or disappointments, and they are Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge.

It seems like Parker is aware of the history and is more than prepared to work as hard as he needs to in order to avoid being a disappointment.
