Cardinals Darnell Dockett Out For The Season

Darnell DockettArizona Cardinals defensive lineman Darnell Dockett will be forced to miss the entire Cardinals season after suffering a torn ACL during the Cardinals training camp practice on Monday.

The injury occurred about an hour into Monday’s practice during a period where the Cardinals were running 11 on 11 drills on a passing play. Dockett was carted off the field at University of Phoenix Stadium after receiving attention from head trainer for the Cardinals Tom Reed.

Cardinals center Lyle Sendlein, who has been missing time as a result of a calf injury, helped Dockett onto the cart.

Dockett had this to say over twitter Monday, “Thank you all for your support & get well wishes. I really do appreciate it. This will be a tough road to recovery but I been through worst.”

Before the extent of the injury was known, defensive tackle for the Cardinals Calais Campbell spoke to Dockett’s importance to what was last years 6th ranked defense.

“He’s a great player, a guy we count on day in and day out to be a leader and take us where we want to go,” Campbell said. “… Hopefully he’ll come back soon.”

Dockett has been the image of durability over the course of his 10 year career in the NFL, missing only 2 games over that entire span, playing in 104 straight to begin his career before missing a Week 9 game in 2010 due to a shoulder injury. His only other missed game was also the result of an injury, this time a hamstring, that kept him out of the Week 4 contest in 2012.

Dockett is a three time pro-bowler and is tied with Reggie White for most sacks in a single Superbowl.

Dockett is coming off of his best season in about 5 years, after recording 59 tackles and 4.5 sacks in the 2013-2014 season.
