Carl Edwards To Join Joe Gibbs Racing

Carl EdwardsCarl Edwars, driver of the number 99 car, has agreed to joining Joe Gibbs Racing team come the 2015 Sprint Cup season, as Joe Gibbs Racing will expand to a 4th team. The announcement was made on Tuesday.

Edwards will switch his number 99 for number 19 next year as he becomes Joe Gibbs Racing’s 4th full time driver in NASCAR’s highest level of competition next season. Arris Group, Inc has already agreed to sign on as Edwards sponsor for 17 races next season.

“This is one of the biggest days in Joe Gibbs Racing’s history,” owner Joe Gibbs said in a statement. “To be able to bring a driver the caliber of Carl Edwards on board to launch our fourth team is just a thrill.”

Edwards, now 35, has been driving the number 99 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing, currently sits at number 8 in the Sprint Cup standing, winning races at Sonoma and Bristol so far this season. Edwards has also posted 5 top 5 finishes so far this year, and a grand total of 9 finishes in the top 10.

In addition to the signing of Edwards for the Sprint Cup, Joe Gibbs Racing has also signed Daniel Suarez to compete in the Nationwide Series along with the Camping World Truck Series.

Edwards and his number 19 car will join Denny Hamlin driving the 11 car, Kyle Busch driving the 18 car, and Tony Stewart driving the number 20 car.

The addition of Edwards and a 4th team for Joe Gibbs Racing will further their claim as one of the top racing groups in NASCAR.

While Edwards will not be joining his new team until the beginning of the next Sprint Cup Season, he still has the rest of this season to try and earn a championship for Roush Racing.
