Chicago Bears Brandon Marshall: Jay Cutler Could Be MVP

on

Chicago BearsChicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall believes that his quarterback, Jay Cutler, could be the MVP of the NFL this upcoming season.

When longtime Dallas Cowboy receiver, and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Michael Irvin visited Bears camp Wednesday Marshall couldn’t say enough about his QB.

” [But] this is a different person. I don’t know this guy. I don’t know this new Jay Cutler. Maybe his new name is like Joshua or something. This is a totally different guy. Just call him Joshua Cutler. That’s what the ‘J’ stands for,” joked Marshall.

Marshall elaborated, ” He’s a totally different person. He’s a totally different athlete. He’s the first one in the building and that sucks because I’ve tried to be the first one in the building. He’s there at like 5 a.m. He lives it. I think he has great balance in his life now with his personal stuff.”

Cutler helped lead a Bears’ offense last year that nearly managed to carry them to the playoffs, despite uncharacteristically shoddy defensive play by the team.

The Bears lost their playoff shot to the Green Bay Packers, who won the final game of the season on a last second touchdown pass to a wide open receiver, a receiver left open in large part due to the poor safety play that had hindered the Bears defense all season.

With an impressive supporting cast around Cutler, featuring the same offensive line that saw such improvement in the 2013-2014 season, versatile running back Matt Forte, big tight end Martellus Bennett, and two huge receiving targets in Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, the Bears offense could be even more explosive in it’s 2nd year in coach Marc Trestman’s offense.

With the 2014 preseason just around the corner, we may catch a glimpse soon of this new Jay Cutler, spoken of so highly by his longtime teammate and friend.
