Martellus BennettAs a result of a fight between tight end Martellus Bennett and rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller, the Chicago Bears have suspended the veteran tight end.

Bennett’s suspension is for an indefinite amount of time, and he was also fined an unspecified amount by the Bears organization.

“Last night, we made a decision to fine and suspend Martellus Bennett for an undetermined length of time,” Bear GM Phil Emery said. “This is a process that we’re working with Martellus. We are in contact with him. Our goal is to have Martellus back as soon as possible. He’s a very loved and respected teammate. We want him back, but it’s a process we have to work through.”

The issued occurred during Monday’s practice after the Fuller, the Bears 1st round pick, attempted to strip the ball from Bennett after the tight end made a reception. When Fuller attemoted to strip the ball, he ended up grabbing Bennett by the chest and taking him to the ground. Bennett got back up and responded to the incident by pushing Fuller and body slamming him to the ground.

The fight required multiple players to break up and caused Bears head coach Marc Trestman to end practice earlier. Bears players Lamarr Houston, Matt Forte and Zach Miller tried to calm Bennett down after the incident.

Bennett showed little remorse¬†about the incident, and had this to say to reporters: “Everybody talks about friendships, but really we are all preparing to win a championship,” Bennett said. “If we make friends along the way, cool. But I’m just trying to help the Bears win a championship and do the job to the best of my ability.”

The Bears have made no announcement as to what needs to happen in order for the suspension on Bennett to be lifted. A big part of Chicago’s revamped offense, Bennett is certainly a player Bears fans want to see on the field when the regular season rolls around.
