Duquesne vs Buffalo Preview

on

buffalo bullsOn Saturday the Duquesne Dukes will be opening the season against the Buffalo Bulls as both squads look to open the 2014 college football season with a win.

The Dukes, who play in the FCS football subdivision out of the NEC, finished last season off with a record of 7-4, finishing 4-2 within their conference. The Bulls, on the other hand play in the FBS subdivision of Division 1 schools in the NCAA. The Bulls finished last season 8-5, and accumulated a 6-2 record within the MAC.

The Dukes are hoping to improve on the success they enjoyed last season and continue to assert themselves within the NEC and the FBS as a whole. If the Dukes do improve their performance this season, they could be legitimate contenders for the FCS championship later this season, and a win over Buffalo would be a good beginning to that effort.

The Bulls are also looking to improve on a solid 2013 campaign and continue to strive towards becoming one of the dominant teams within the MAC. Last season the Bulls scored an average of 30.3 points per game, good enough for the 55th overall rank in scoring offense. In addition to their offensive ability, the Bulls only allowed 24.4 points per game, which was strong enough to warrant the 40th best scoring defense ranking in the FBS last season.

Both teams would love an opening day victory as that would be a good start as both teams look to begin their season moving towards improvement. Though the Dukes would love to get the upset, it is a relatively unlikely prospect. The Bulls defense is strong enough that it should help prevent the Dukes from getting much going offensively. Still, it should be a relatively tight contest with the Bulls coming out on top 20-14.
