Football Preview: Falcons vs Jaguars

falcons vs jaguarsThis Thursday, the Atlanta Falcons are set to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in what is set to be the final preseason game of the season for both teams.

While more often than not the starters for the regular season opener is set by the 3rd week of the preseason, the 4th preseason game gives coaches an opportunity to take a look at some of the players further down the depth chart who are still competing for a spot on the final 53 man roster.

So far this preseason, both the Falcons and the Jaguars are 1-2 and are going to compete for a .500 record in the preseason.

The Atlanta Falcons are going to look at regaining some of their standing as one of the more dominant team in the NFC South. Part of the reason that the Falcons experienced a drop off last season is that the Carolina Panthers emerged as a true competitor in the NFC South, joining the New Orleans Saints as a strong member of the NFC South. The Falcons hope to be able to return to the playoffs this season.

The Jaguars are continuing their push toward emerging from the cellar of the AFC South in a somewhat competitive division that also features the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, and Houston Texans. The Jags have to recover from the loss of their running back Maurice Jones-Drew and hope to do so in part from drafting former UCF quarterback Blake Bortles this season.

Both of these teams look to get a last bit of work in during this preseason game before kicking off the regular season.

The Jaguars are favored to win by 4, with the over under being set at 39.5.
