Georgia Southern vs NC State Preview

on

NC StateThe Georgia Southern Eagles is set to get their 2014 season underway in a game against the North Carolina State Wolfpack in a season opening game at NC State’s Carter-Finley Stadium.

The Georgia Southern Eagles enter this season after posting a 7-4 overall record while finishing 4-4 in the Sun Belt conference. The NC State Wolfpack finished last season with an overall record of 3-9, losing all 8 games the they played within the ACC, also losing both contests they played against top 25 competition.

The Eagles are looking to return to being a dominant team within the FCS. Last season, the Eagles did pull off an upset against an FBS school, beating the University of Florida Gators in a late season contest in what could only be described as the worst season for the Gators in at least 20 seasons. The Eagles look to continue that trend and start the season off by knocking off another FBS team.

The Wolfpack is quite simply looking to improve from the awful season they posted last year. NC State finished with the 99th overall rated scoring offense, scoring around 22.8 points per game last season, while their scoring defense, ranked 84th, allowed an average of 30.2 points per game. In order for the Wolfpack to see any improvement this year, they are defiantly going to need to improve on the defensive side if they want to be competitive in the ACC.

While the Wolfpack is definitely looking to start the year off with a win, the Eagles aren’t a team that should be taken likely, as they’ve caught teams sleeping in the past. While NC State isn’t likely to overlook any team, I think that Georgia Southern will escape week 1 with another victory over an FBS team, taking this one 24-17 over NC State.
