Clemson vs Georgia

The Clemson Tigers are set to open up their season by visiting Athens Georgia to take on the Georgia Bulldogs as both teams look to open up their season with a convincing victory over another ranked team.

The Tigers enter this season with a rank of 16 in the top 25 and finished the 2013 campaign with an 11-2 record while also winning 7 of the 8 contests the Tigers played in the ACC. The Tigers won 2 of the 4 games that they played against other teams ranked within the top 25 last season.

The Bulldogs, the home team for this contest, come into this season ranked 12th in the country, after finishing last year with a record of 8-5 with a 5-3 record within SEC play. The Bulldogs won 2 of the 5 games that they played against top 25 teams.

The Tigers enter the season looking to repeat much of the same success they had last year in the ACC. Clemson acheived that success in large part due to their offensive prowess, ranking 9th in the FBS by scoring 40.2 points per game on average. The Tigers also had a strong defense, which finished the season ranked 24th overall in points allowed, allowing 22.2 points per game.

The Bulldogs did struggle somewhat in the always tough SEC, and that reflected in their offensive and defensive rankings. The Bulldogs enjoyed most of their success on the offensive side of the ball, finishing 22nd in the rankings last season in points scored, averaging 36.7 points per game. The Bulldogs did struggle somewhat defensively, allowing an average of 29 points per game, earning them the ranking of 79th overall among the FBS teams.

This should be one of the highlight games from the opening week of the season, as it pits two strong teams against each other. Georgia should take this one in a squeaker 24-21, but Clemson is enough of a threat to put Georgia on upset alert.
