James Madison vs Maryland Preview

on

MarylandThe James Madison Dukes are set to begin their 2014 season taking on the Maryland Terrapins, with both teams looking to start the year off right with a victory.

The Dukes played to .500 ball last year, finishing with a record of 6-6 overall, and a 3-5 record within the FCS subdivision’s CAA conference.

The Terrapins, on the other side of the field, finished last season with an overall record of 7-6, along with playing to a 3-5 record within the Big Ten last season. The Maryland squad lost both games it played against top 25 level competition in the FBS subdivision.

The James Madison team is looking to improve from its decidedly average season in 2013 and improve their competitive performance and fight for an FCS title.

The Maryland squad is continuing to strive for improvement within the the Big Ten conference to continue to assert themselves as a legitimate competitor after joining the conference when it expanded, defecting from the ACC. Maryland competed to the 85th ranked scoring offense in the FBS last season while scoring an average of 26.2 points per game. The Terps had a solid season on the defensive side of the ball, allowing only 25.3 points per game, and finishing with the 55th ranked scoring defense in the country.

The dukes are looking to upset the Terps, and overcome the always difficult gap in talent levels between FCS and FBS subdivision schools. Maryland wants to start the year off with a win as they pursue an improved season within the Big Ten as they try and prove that they are a team that could contend.

I expect a valiant effort from the Dukes, but it will ultimately fall short. The Terps should take this game relatively handily.

Terps win this one 24-10.
