Jon JonesAfter suffering a leg injury, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones has been forced to pull out of UFC 178 fight and have to reschedule his championship bout against Daniel Cormier to January 3rd of 2015.

Instead of UFC 178, the fight will occur at UFC 182.

Jones, with a professional record of 20-1, was set to defend his title against Daniel Cormier on September 27th in what was expected to be the biggest fight of the UFC schedule for the end of 2014.

Jones is widely considered to be the best pound for pound fighter in mixed martial arts. Cormier, on the other hand, is an undefeated and former Olympic wrestler. There has been a lot of publicity in the build up to this fight especially after last weeks altercation at a pre-fight media event at the MGM Grand casino lobby.

For the new main event at UFC 178, UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson will fight Chris Cariaso in the new main event.

Johnson, with a professional record of 20-2-1 will seek his 5th straight title defense and he scored a decisive decision victory against Ali Bagautinov at UFC 174. Johnson has won 6 straight fights.

With Jones out of UFC 178 to recover from his injury, the additional time before the fight will also give both Jones and Cormier more time to prepare for the fight, UFC’s traditional year end show in Las Vegas.

The Johnson-Cariaso fight was originally scheduled to take place on August 30th, so the adjustment of the UFC 178 fight card has given them more time to prepare as well.

When the Jones-Cormier bout finally takes place, it is likely to be one of the most hyped fights for the Light Heavyweight championship in recent memory.
