LeBron James Committed To Cleveland Long Term

lebron jamesThis free agency period, LeBron James made the decision to return home, back to the Cleveland Cavaliers, after a 4 year, 2 title run with the Miami Heat.

LeBron only signed a 2 year deal, with a player option to opt out of his contract at the end of this coming season. Despite the short contract, James said that he is committed to being a Cavalier for the long haul.

“My No. 1 goal is to win a championship here; it’d be the greatest achievement in my life,” James said. “I don’t plan on going nowhere. I don’t have the energy to do it again.”

LeBron’s 2 year contract has the potential to earn $42 million, and is set to expire, if he takes the player option to stay, after the 2015-2016 season, which will allow him to re negotiate his salary after the NBA signs new TV deals in 2016 which should see a substantial increase in the salary cap and max level contract salary.

“At the end of the day, I’m a businessman as well,” James said. “I know what is going on in the league.”

Despite the assurance that King James will keep his throne in Cleveland, the Cavaliers have been working non stop to improve their roster in order to help ensure that LeBron doesn’t take his talents anywhere else. The Cavaliers have acquired forward Mike Miller, as well as James Jones.

The Cavs are also pursuing a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves to bring all star power forward Kevin Love to the team. Cleveland is also discussing terms with veteran, free agent defensive specialist Shawn Marion.

LeBron, despite all the moves being made by the Cavs, still believes it will be a process becoming a true contender, but with all the new talent in Cleveland, the Cavaliers will likely be a team to contend with for years to come.
