02-Olly_BarkleyOlly Barkley the fly half for London Welsh says he has one of his eyes on the Premiership’s second weekend of the season when the club plays Bath.

Barkley, who is 32, made 162 appearances in the Premiership for Bath prior to leaving to play for Racing Metro 92 in France. He signed for the newly promoted Welsh in June. He faces his old team on September 13.

It will be Barkley’s first return to the Rec in anything besides a Bath jersey.

He calls the Rec a special place and one that will always be special for him. Barkley, who also has 23 Test caps for England, says the opportunity to play again in the Premiership has recharged his batteries. He hopes the experience he has will help keep his club up in the Premiership.

He said before he signed with London Welsh that it seemed like a group of players he would enjoy playing with and he is from London so that helped as he is around family and friends.

He said if he is happy while off the pitch, then he will be happy on it.

He said some players on the club have played a great deal of rugby, but his age gives him the experience over nearly everyone.

He knows he needs to play consistently as he has not played that much of late. He also wants to be one of the contributing factors to help London Welsh remain in the Premiership next season and in the future.

Barkley is just one of 25 new players on the club and admits the season will be tough for the newcomers in the Premiership.
