clayton kersahwThe Los Angeles Dodgers ace, Clayton Kershaw, impressive run continues as he recorded his 11th straight win Sunday when he led the Dodgers to a 5-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Kershaw pitched for 8 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 walks, while only recording 6 strikeouts, 5 below his average per 9 innings, and this is now being called struggling for Kershaw.

“It was a struggle for him all day long. It felt like he was working hard but he kept battling and giving us chances,” manager Don Mattingly said.

Kershaw, now tied with the National League lead in victories at 14, still lowered his league leading ERA to 1.78.

Kershaw also reached base 3 times over the course of the game, including hitting an RBI single in the 8th inning. Sunday’s win helped the Dodgers avoid being swept by the Brewers in the 3 game series.

“It’s fun to feel like a baseball player every once in a while,” Kershaw said. “We get labeled as pitchers only sometimes so it’s fun to get some dirt on your jersey every once in a while.”

“It was a good one for us to bounce back and hopefully it gets us going in the right direction again,” Mattingly said.

The Dodgers hope that this victory will help push them back toward their best playing potential, and help them keep a 4.5 game division lead over rivals San Francisco Giants.

Kershaw, a 2 time Cy Young winner, certainly appears to be well on his way to a 3rd Cy Young, denoting him as the best pitcher in the National League.

The dodgers certainly hope the success of their ace pitcher continues through the rest of the year, and into the playoffs.

If Kershaw continues to pitch the was he has been of late, he is bound to go down in the history books as recording one of the greatest single season pitching performances in recent history.
