Memphis vs Austin Preview

Memphis

The Austin Peay Governors are set to open up their season on Saturday when they take on the Memphis Tigers at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium as both teams are looking to start off the season with a win.

Austin Peay comes into this contest playing out of the FCS subdivision’s OVC conference. During the Governors’ 2013 season they failed to accumulate even a single win, losing not just all of their in conference games, but every game they played. Memphis, on the other hand, did not perform much better, finishing their season with a record of 3-9, winning one game in the FBS subdivision’s American conference. The Tigers also lost their only game of the season against the FBS top 25.

The Governors are hoping to get at least some slight improvement over last years season, and begin a rebuilding practice that will hopefully see them emerge from the cellar of the FCS subdivision and the OVC conference. Even getting a win over Memphis will give them a higher win total than they had all of last season.

Memphis is also looking to bounce back from their rough season, hopefully earning more than the 3 wins they managed to accumulate last season. If the Tigers hope to see any kind of improvement this season, they are going to need to improve across the board, but primarily in their offensive out put. Despite the Tigers playing to the 44th ranked defense by allowing 24.6 points per game, their offense could not provide any significant benefit, ranking 112th by scoring just 19.5 points per game.

While this game is probably not the highlight of the weekends schedule, it is still an important contest for both squads. While it will be a tough a contest for both teams, Memphis should be able to come out on top, 24-13.
