NC Central vs East Carolina Preview

East Carolina

The North Carolina Central Eagles are poised to kick the season off on Saturday by taking on the East Carolina Pirates, as both teams are looking to start the season off with a victory.

The Eagles enter 2014 after finishing the 2013 season with a 5-7 record, winning 3 of the 8 games they played within the MEAC conference of the FCS football subdivision. On the other side of the ball, the Pirates enter the 2014 season after a strong showing in 2013 in which they went 10-3 overall, winning 6 of the 8 games they played within the FBS subdivision’s Conference USA. East Carolina did not play any games against the FBS top 25.

The NC Central Eagles are looking to improve on their sub par season from last year, and they hope to emerge from the middle of the MEAC conference in the FCS, maybe even inserting themselves into the FCS championship conversation. A victory over East Carolina would be a tremendous stepping stone for the team, as a victory over any FBS team, especially one that has seen recent success, would be major for the FCS team that beat them.

East Carolina is looking to continue the success that they enjoyed last season, and that they are truly a contender within the Conference USA, and are a team that can’t be overlooked by any team. The Pirates struggled some defensively, finishing last season ranked 49th in points allowed within the FBS, allowing 24.8 points per game. Their defensive struggles were overshadowed by their offensive dominance as they scored an average of 40.2 points per game, good enough for the 9th overall scoring offense in the FBS.

East Carolina should be able to roll over the Eagles with relative ease on their way to continuing their success. The Pirates win this contest 48-10.
