NFL: Panthers vs Buccaneers Preview

on

bucs vs panthersThe Cam Newton led Carolina Panthers are set to open their season on Sunday against the division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium as both teams are looking for an early advantage within the NFC South.

Thye Carolina Panthers are coming into this season after playing themselves into the playoffs as a result of the 2013 regular season in which they beat out the New Orleans Saints to become division champions. In addition to the Bucs and Saints, the division also features a tough Atlanta Falcons team. The Onathers will have one major hurdle to overcome this season, and that is their receiving core. Every receiver that Cam Newton has to pass to this season was not a maj0r contributor to the team last season, and it is likely the Carolina offense will suffer as a result.

This game is the first for the Buccaneers under new head coach, former head coach of the Chicago Bears, Lovie Smith. Under Smith, the Bucs look to boast an improved defense, something that Smith is known for. In addition to that, the Bucs spent every pick in this years draft on offensive players in an effort to improve their point production and become legitimate contenders within the NFC South. The Bucs also brought in former Bears backup Josh McCown to be the starter. The Bucs come into this year with their eyes set on significant improvement.

The line for this matchup has Tampa Bay at -1.5, while  the over/under for the game is set at 39.5.

While the Panthers certainly won’t be a pushover for the Bucs, the Tampa Bay team as enjoyed enough improvement this season to be able to beat the Panthers in the opener. Bucs take this one 21-10.
