New York Jets

NFL: Raiders vs Jets Preview

on

raiders vs jetsThe Oakland Raiders and the New York Jets are set to square off in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, as both teams are looking to start the year off with a win as the NFL regular season gets underway.

The Oakland Raiders are coming into this season looking to emerge from the cellar of the AFC West, a division in which they must compete against the likes of the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, both of whom made the playoffs last season, as well as the San Diego Chargers. The Raiders have seemingly struggled monumentally for years, not having been to the playoffs since their loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Superbowl XXXVII. The Raiders hope that 2nd round pick, Derek Carr, can help lead their offense out of futility and back into relevance starting this year.

The New York Jets, who take the field Saturday with 2nd year man Geno Smith taking the helm at quarterback, are looking to make it back into the playoffs and be competitive in the AFC East where their biggest competition will be the New England Patriots. The Jets, who have now officially left the Mark Sanchez era, after releasing the QB this offseason, hope to return to the successes of Rex Ryan’s early years with the Jets, during which they went to 2 straight AFC championships. The Jets hope, also, to return to form defensively this season.

The line for the game has the Jets at -5.5, while the over/under on the game is set at 39.5.

While the Jets are favored to win at home, the Raiders will not be a pushover for the home team, and are enough of a threat to put the Jets on upset alert. That said, I think the Jets take this one in a close match, 21-17.
