Nicholls State vs Air Force

on

Air ForceThe Nicholl’s State Colonels will be opening their 2014 college season against the Air Force Falcons on Saturday, as both teams look to improve upon relatively weak 2013 seasons.

The Nicholl’s State Colonels finished last season with a 4-8 record, also finishing with a 1-6 record within the FCS subdivision’s Southland conference, also losing the only game they played against top 25 competition.

Air Force, had an even worse season, finishing with an overall record of 2-10, going 0-8 in the FBS subdivision’s Mountain West conference.

Nicholl’s State does not have much success from last season to build off of, but they are looking to overcome the Air Force in order to get a decent win to open their season. If the Colonels do win to start the season, they will at least have a building block on which to improve their outlook for the upcoming season.

Air Force also has a lot to play for, looking to improve on an atrocious 2013 season in which they could barely muster 2 victories. The Air Force had the 93rd overall scoring offense last season, averaging 24.7 points per game. What really cost Air Force was their pathetic performance on defense, which allowed 40.0 points per game, earning them the rank of 119th in scoring defense, the 6th worst defense in the FBS.

In what should be a relatively competitive game, despite not being played by any of the teams in the Power 5 conferences, the game holds a lot of importance to both teams. Air force isn’t in a position to overlook any team whether or not they are FBS or FCS, so they aren’t likely to be caught sleeping by the Colonels. The Falcons should win this game, but it’ll be a close one.

Air Force comes out on top 17-14 against Nicholl’s State.
