Ohio vs Kent State Preview

Ohio

This Saturday, the Ohio Bobcats are set to kick off the college football season against the Kent State Golden Flashes in an in conference game to that could help provide an early picture of how both teams are looking this season

The Bobcats, who play in the MAC conference within the FBS subdivision, finished last season with a record of 7-6, along with accumulating a 4-4 total within the conference. On the other side of the field, Kent State, also a member of the MAC, finished last season with a record of 4-8 overall while recording a 3-5 mark within the conference. Both teams lost their only game against top 25 competition.

Ohio is looking to improve from their performance last year where they were decidedly a middle of the pack team in a somewhat weak conference. Their FBS rankings resemble that as they finished ranked 74th and 72nd in overall scoring offense and overall scoring defense respectively. The averaged scoring 27.4 points per game, while on average giving up 27.5.

Kent State did have a notably worse season and that is also displayed within the FBS rankings. Defensively, the Golden flashes ranked better than Ohio, earning the 68th overall rank by allowing 26.9 points per game. Offensively, however, Kent State was much worse, finishing the season with a rank of 106th overall in scoring offense, as the team only managed to muster an average of 20.8 points per game last season.

This in conference battle should provide a relatively entertaining football game, as both teams should be relatively evenly matched. While Ohio will likely have the better offense, Kent State is playing this one at home, so that may balance out.

All things considered, Ohio is still the better team, and will be able to take this one from the Golden Flashes 24-17.
