Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon Suspended

Joe MixonThe University of Oklahoma has suspended freshman running back Joe Mixon from all football related activities for the entire upcoming season, the University announced on Monday.

The fresham running back was charged with misdemeanor assault on Friday as a result of an incident in which Mixon is alledged to have punched a woman in the face.

“As the university has demonstrated in the past, we are committed to winning the right way,” coach Bob Stoops and Athletic director Joe Castiglione¬†in a joint statement. “As an example to others, OU sets the highest possible standards for its student-athletes, coaches and staff.”

The Oklahoma Sooners are currently ranked number 4 in the AP preseason poll and number 3 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Mixon, if he is able to meet specific conditions which have yet to be revealed, will still be allowed to remain in the classes he is enrolled in at the University and be eligible for financial aid.

According to the Cleveland county district attorney’s office, Mixon could face up to a year in jail on the charge of an act resulting in a gross injury.

The alledged incident took place on July 25th at Pickleman’s Gourmet Cafe where, according to the incident report, Amelia Rae Molitor, a 20 year old student from Eules, Texas,was striken in the face by Mixon, resulting in the fracturing of 4 bones in her face.

Mixon’s attorney has stated that Mixon is innocent on the grounds of defending himself from, “a very intoxicated and troubled young woman.”

Mixon, recruited out of Oakley, California, was the top recruit in Oklahoma’s most recent recruiting class and the number 6 overall running back prospect in the country.
