Penn State vs UCF: COllege Football WEEK 1

on

UCF vs Penn StateThe Penn State Nittany Lions are set to take on the University of Central Florida Knights in both team’s season opening contest in Dublin Ireland on August 30th.

Penn State finished last season with a 7-5 overall record, posting a 4-4 record withing the Big Ten, and also winning 2 out of 3 contests with teams ranked in top 25 last season. UCF finished last season with a 12-1 record led by quarterback Blake Bortles, who has since departed for the NFL. UCF went undefeated in conference play, with their only loss coming against South Carolina early in the season.

Penn State is definitely looking to improve upon their performance in 2013, hoping to be competitive in a tough Big Ten where they are forced to compete against the likes of Ohio State and Michigan.

UCF is looking to prove that their recent success wasn’t just the result of the prowess of Blake Bortles, and prove that they can be a legitimate title contender despite playing in the American Conference.

UCF had the 31st ranked offense and 17th ranked scoring defense in the NCAA last year, and are trying to separate themselves and earn a strong fan base in a state where the majority of football support goes toward the Miami Hurricanes, Florida Gators, or the defending national champions, the Florida State Seminoles.

This will be the first opportunity to see how UCF tries to go about replacing Blake Bortles at quarterback and to see if UCF experiences the fall off in performance that some are anticipating after Bortles departure.

Odds makers are reporting an even point spread, with the over under at 48.5. Assuming the game doesn’t get delayed or cancelled due to an active volcano in the area, I think that Penn State will get their 1st win of the season over the Knights. The loss of Bortles will simply be too much to overcome.
