Rugby: Samoa Excited About Hosting All Blacks

samoa-danceMichael Jones the former Samoa and New Zealand flanker has spoken about the excitement on the Pacific Island of Samoa over the visit the All Blacks will make in 2015.

The fixture has been rumored of for a long time and was confirmed finally this week by the New Zealand Rugby Union.

In July of 2015, the All Blacks visit Apia for part of the national team’s preparations for next year’s Rugby World Cup to be played in England.

Jones, who recently was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the IRB, said the match in July would mean the world to the people of Samoa after so many years of having to wait to host one.

Jones told a newspaper in New Zealand that this matchup is the ultimate one for everyone involved in Samoan rugby.

To host the world power of rugby, it does not get better for Samoa or its people, added Jones.

Jones concluded by saying the game would lift the entire nation of Samoa and give them a sense of great pride. So much is tied up in playing New Zealand and now hosting the game has finally happened after waiting decades for it to take place.

Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi the Prime Minister of Samoa and the head of the SRU – Samoan Rugby Union – spoke after the celebration of hosting New Zealand by inviting other world nations to follow what New Zealand had done and play in Samoa.

The Prime Minister called the match an historical event as having New Zealand playing in Samoa cannot be compared to anything else.

The Samoa politician and rugby lover said the supporters of rugby from both countries would savor such an event, as Manu Samoa are to face the world’s No. 1 team at home.

He challenged other top rugby nations to visit and take on Manu Samoa on their home field.
