Savannah State vs Middle Tennessee Preview

Middle Tennessee

The Savannah State Tigers will be opening the 2014 college football season Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Saturday as both teams will be seeking an opening day victory for both squads.

Savannah State had a rough year last season, playing to a record of 1-11, losing all 8 of the games that they played within the MEAC conference of the FCS subdivision. In addition, the Tigers lost the only game that they played against the FBS top 25. Middle Tennessee is coming into the 2014 season after finishing the 2013 season with an 8-5 overall record, as well as finishing 6-2 within Conference USA of the FBS subdivision.

Savannah State is looking to bounce back this season in order to prove to themselves and the rest of the MEAC and the FCS subdivision that they could be a team that is difficult to play against. If Savannah State does manage to get a victory over Middle Tennessee, not only would that be a major win in Savannah State’s quest to improve on last season, it would match their win total from the previous season.

Middle Tennessee is looking to improve upon their record from last season in an attempt to become a true force within Conference USA. Middle Tennessee finished 69th in total offense on the season, scoring an average of 39 points per game. Defensively speaking, the Blue Raiders were slightly better, ranked 60th overall in scoring defense, allowing an average of 26.2 points per game.

The Tigers would love to be able to upset Middle Tennessee in their stadium, but it is highly unlikely that they will be able to overcome what is, quite frankly, a more talented team playing in front of their home crowd. The Blue Raiders will be able to to top the Tigers 31-14.
