lynchPower running back for the Seattle Seahwaks, Marshawn Lynch, has been cleared by the police of any involvement in an assault and property damage incident for which Lynch was accused, said the Bellevue, Washington, police department on Wednesday night.

“The Bellevue Police Department has determined that Marshawn Lynch was not involved in this incident in any way,”said the department issued statement about the case. “The case remains an open and active investigation. We appreciate the cooperation we have received from Mr. Lynch and the Seahawks organization during this investigation.”

The Bellevue Police department said on Monday that Lynch was under investigation following an assault and property damage claim by an anonymous female.

The Seahawks referred to the accusation as “bogus” in a short, one sentence statement released by the organization on Tuesday.

“While we maintain the utmost respect for the investigative process, after speaking with Marshawn, we are comfortable these accusations are bogus,” read the entirety of the Seahawks issued statement.

Officials from the Seahawks spoke with Lynch regarding the incident and in doing so were able to successfully determine that Lynch was in his hotel room at the time when the alleged incident occurred.

Lynch missed the first 8 days of Seahawks training camp while he was holding out for changes to his contract as he is entering the 3rd year of his $30 million contract and was scheduled to make $5 million. After working to get his pay this year to $6.5 million, the running back ended his holdout and returned to the Seahawks, though it had been reported that Lynch wanted an additional $5 million added to his pay this season.

With Lynch cleared of charges, the Seahwaks focus can return to trying to repeat as the Superbowl champions, a feat not accomplished sine the 2003-2005 New England Patriots.
