The Central Arkansas Bears are set to face off against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday to open the 2014 college football season as both squads look to start the season off on the right foot, by putting a W in the win column.

The Bears are coming into this season after finishing last season 7-5, also finishing 4-3 within the Southland conference, part of the FCS subdivision. The Red Raiders on the other hand finished last season at 8-5, with all 5 of their loses coming from within the Big 12 Conference of the FBS subdivision. Aside from only winning 4 in conference games, the Red Raiders also finished with a 2-3 record against the FBS top 25.

The Bears are hoping to continue to rise through the ranks of the FCS and the Southland conference in order to assert themselves as a force to be reckoned with. A victory over Texas Tech would be a massive stepping stone for Central Arkansas in proving that they are a legitimate threat within the FCS subdivision.

The Red Raiders are also looking to improve upon their 2013 season by asserting themselves as a dominant force within the Big 12, and even the FBS, hoping to make their way into the top 25, maybe even into the playoffs. Last season, the Red Raiders struggled defensively, allowing, on average, 30.5 points per game, ranking 88th overall in scoring defense. The Red Raiders were much better on offense, ranking 24th overall in the FBS rankings, scoring an average of 35.8 points per game. If the Raiders improve defensively, they will be a true force in the Big 12.

Though the Bears would love to pull off an upset victory over the Red Raiders, it’s just not going to happen. Texas Tech will come out on top of this one 49-21.
