Donald CerroneThe UFC 178 Fight Card set for September 27th in Las Vegas has seen some changes as lightweight contender Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (24-6-0, 1 NC) has been added for a match-up with Bobby “King” Green (23-5-0) in the upcoming co-main event.

Cerrone looks to remain unbeaten in 2014 in his fourth fight of the year having knocked out Jim Miller in his last fight at a UFC Fight Night in mid-July. The “Cowboy” unleashed a kicking clinic that seemed to keep Miller guessing before landing the head kick that ended the fight. Cerrone has been a busy man this year and is on a four fight winning streak since dropping a unanimous decision last August to Rafael do Anjos.

Green is on an eight fight winning streak of his own but will be facing his second challenge of the year in Cerrone. The “King” won his last fight in a split decision against Josh Thomson at a UFC Fight Night in mid-July by exhibiting octagon control, landing harder strikes and deflecting a lot of Thomson’s attacks. Green hasn’t lost a match in three years coming into this battle of contenders in the UFC lightweight division looking to keep his streak and title contention hopes alive.

Fighting out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cerrone is a striker specializing in Muay Thai techniques with an excellent handle on submissions while his opponent will be an excellent contrast of style with a well-rounded game without a dominant style. A native of Fontana, California, Green is a solid finisher with an athletic approach to controlling his matches.

Green was initially scheduled to fight Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (27-8-0) who will now square off with James “The James Krause” Krause (21-5-0) in an earlier fight on the same card.

Patrick “The Predator” Cote (21-8-0) will face Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson (9-1-0) at 170. Dominick Cruz (19-1-0) faces Takeya Mizugaki (20-7-2) at 135. Tim Kennedy (18-4-0) will take on Yoel “Soldier of God” Romero (8-1-0) at 185. Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier (16-3-0) faces Conor “The Notorious” McGregor (15-2-0).

The card will also feature a women’s matchup at 135 between No. 1 contender Cat “Alpha” Zingano (8-0-0) and Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes (9-3-0).

The co-main event of the night is a flyweight title fight between the flyweight champion Demetrius “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (20-2-1) and challenger Chris “Kamikaze” Cariaso (17-5-0).
