Trenton Thompson: Top Defensive Tackle Prospect Commits To Gerogia

on

Trenton ThompsonThe top rated defensive tackle prospect in the nation, and number 6 overall rated prospect in the ESPN top 300, Trenton Thompson, has committed to play football for the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

“Georgia, they were my first offer,” said Thompson, who is from Albany, Georgia. “They were the first coaches that came down to see me and showed me the most love. Georgia has great coaches, and I have good relationships with them. The fan base has also showed a lot of love, and I also think that in the classroom Georgia can help me be the best student I can be.”

The commitment of Thompson to the Bulldogs is a major win for the program as they have been recruiting Thompson for quite some time.

The Bulldogs were the longtime favorite to sign Thompson in large part due to area recruiter Mike Bobo, but Auburn, led by former Gerogia defensive line coach Rodney Garner, made a strong push in trying to get Thompson to sign with the Tigers.

The commitment is an important victory for the Bulldogs, as they have struggled somewhat in getting commitments from the top recruits out of Georgia, losing some of the more notable recruits to SEC and in state rivals.

UGA has a strong recruitment class shaping up, landing a 5 star defensive end on national signing day in Lorenzo Carter, and with the commitment of Thompson, the Bulldogs have recruited the top rated prospect from the states top-ranked prospect since 2012 when Georgia signed Josh Harvey-Clemons.

The Gerogia Bulldogs have finished with a recruiting class within the top 10 classes in the nation in 7 of the last 9 years, and with the current crop of freshmen the Bulldogs have recruited, it looks like they may make it 8 of the last 10  years.
