Troy
The Troy Trojans are set to begin their season on Saturday in a game against the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers, what will be an important game for both teams. -Keys for Appalachian State Mountaineers:

The Trojans come into this game after finishing their 2013 campaign with an overall record of 6-6, finishing 4-3 in the Sun Belt Conference. The UAB Blazers, on the other hand finished last season with an overall record of 2-10 while going 1-7 in Conference USA play, and losing their only game against a top 25 opponent.

Troy enjoyed fair success on the offensive side of the ball, averaging 34.1 points a game, good enough to earn the 32nd overall scoring offense rank in the 2013 campaign. Troy was let down by their defense, which allowed an average of 35.9 points per game, earning them ranking as the 109th best scoring defense last season. The struggles Troy underwent last season were mostly because the defense couldn’t keep other teams off the board.

The struggles of the Blazers, however, were largely due to ineffective play on both sides of the ball. The Blazers scored an average of 26.3 points per game, earning them the 83rd ranked scoring offense. While certainly not the worst offense in the FBS, it left a lot to be desired. The defense, however, was completely terrible, allowing 43.8 points per game, finishing 122nd in scoring defense on the year.

In case you were curious, there are only 125 teams in the FBS, meaning UAB had the 4th worst defense in the FBS subdivision.

This is poised to be somewhat of a shootout, as neither team excels defensively, but Troy has a more potent offense, and should be able to shred the UAB defense with little trouble. This one goes to Troy, 41-31.
