Utah State vs Tennessee Week 1: College Football Preview

on

TennesseeThe Utah State Aggies are set to open the 2014 college football season in Neyland stadium as they are set to matchup with the Tennessee Volunteers in a game that both teams are looking to come out of victorious.

The Aggies are coming into the 2014 season after finishing the 2013 season with a record of 9-5 overall, while also winning 7 of the 8 game that they played within the Mountain West conference. The Aggies did lose their only game against teams ranked in the top 25. The Volunteers, who line up across from the Aggies, finished the year with an overall record of 5-7, losing 6 of the 8 games that they played within the always tough SEC. The Volunteers also played 7 games against teams ranked in the top 25, of which they only won 1.

The Aggies are looking to continue to enjoy some of the success they had last season within the Mountain West and would like to push toward competing for a Mountain West championship. If the Aggies manage to get a victory over Tennessee on the road to open their season, it will do a lot to prove that they are a team that shouldn’t be overlooked by even the most prominent teams in the FBS subdivision.

The Volunteers, on the other hand, are looking to improve on a sub par season from within the SEC and hope to emerge as a legitimate threat within what has been the toughest conference in college football over the past decade. It is important for Tennessee to come away from this matchup with a victory so they can start their season off on the right side of .500.

While the Aggies certainly won’t be a pushover, Tennessee has too much talent at home for the Aggies to overcome. The Volunteers are set to win this one 31-14.
