The West Virginia Mountaineers are slated to open up the 2014 season in the Georgia Dome as they face off against the 2nd ranked Alabama Crimson Tide as both teams are looking to start the 2014 season off with a victory.

The Mountaineers finished last season with a record of 4-8 overall, winning just 2 of the 9 games that they played within the Big 12 conference. West Virginia also finished the year only winning 1 of the 4 games that they played against teams ranked in the top 25. The Crimson Tide on the other hand, finished the year with a record of 11-2, losing their last 2 games of the season. The Tide ended the season with a record of 7-1 in SEC play and went 3-2 in the 5 games they played within the top 25.

The Mountaineers are looking to improve on their record from last year and reemerge as a dominant force within the Big 12 conference, which is something easier said than done. The Mountaineers are going to need to improve on both sides of the ball if they hope to set themselves apart within the conference. A win over the Tide would be an incredible boost for the Mountaineers season as they hope to begin their road to improvement.

The Crimson Tide could be considered as having a somewhat off season last year. It’s hard to imagine 2 consecutive losses being considered an off year, but that is the kind of team Nick Saban has coached the Crimson Tide to. The Tide are once again, right in the middle of the national championship picture, but will have to play through an always tough season in the SEC if they hope to secure a spot in the playoffs this year.

The Tide should win this game by a handsome margin, defeating the Maountaineers handily, 31-7.
