Young Stown vs State Illinois Preview

Illinois
On Saturday, FCS team, the Youngstown State Penguins will take on the Illinois Fighting Illini coming out of the Big Ten to begin both teams seasons. -Keys for Appalachian State Mountaineers:

Youngstown State opens this season coming off an 8-4 record last year, winning 5 of 8 contests within the MVFC while the Illini are coming off a season in which they finished with a poor 4-8 record, winning only 1 game in Big Ten play, while falling to all 3 top 25 teams they faced on year.

The Illini are looking to improve from last seasons struggles, and become a force to be reckoned with within the always tough Big Ten conference. The conference includes the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Michigan State. The Illini have a lot of improving to do, both offensively and defensively, if they hope to make any kind of improvement in their record from last year.

The Illini had the 106th ranked scoring defense in FBS play last year, finishing with the 62nd overall scoring offense in country, not nearly enough to be competitive in the Big Ten.

Youngstown State looks to start their pursuit of a run to the FCS championship with an upset win over the Illini, and leave Illinois fans with a bitter taste in their mouth after the Illini home opener.

Youngstown State will eventually need to overcome FCS champions North Dakota State in their season as well if they hope to establish themselves as contenders in the FCS.

While the Penguins are certainly looking to play Cinderella and upset the Illini in the opening week of college football, I think that Illinois will achieve victory relatively handily, beating Youngstown State by a score of 31-14  and starting off their season on the right foot.
