Arkansas Pine Bluff vs Texas State Preview



The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions are set to open the season off playing the Texas State Bobcats, as both squads are striving for a season opening victory as they enter the 2014 campaign with the hope of a new season.

The Golden Lions are entering the season after finishing last year with a record of 2-9, including a record of 2-7 within the SWAC conference of the FCS division 1 subdivision. The Bobcats are entering this season after playing to .500 ball last year, finishing the year 6-6, while only winning 2 of the 7 games that they played within the Sun Belt Conference of the FBS football subdivision. In addition, the Bobcats lost the only game they played last season against the FBS.

The Golden Lions are hoping to bounce back this season from their rough season last year. As they seek to become more of a legitimate contender within the the SWAC, they are also looking to become a legitimate threat within the FCS and become a legitimate contender.

The Bobcats are also looking to improve on their performance from last season as they look to extend past a .500 record and contend for the top of the Sun Belt conference. Last season the Bobcats finished the year off ranked 95th overall, scoring an average of 23.9 points per game all season. The Bobcats did perform better on defense, finishing ranked 71st in scoring defense, allowing 27.3 points per game.

While the Golden Lions are looking to play the role of the upset in the season opener, they will have some major hurdles to overcome in Saturday’s opener if they hope to do so. The Bobcats are going to do their best to make sure their send their fans home happy, and they’ll win this one 27-17.
