Bethune Cookman vs Florida Preview

The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats will be taking on the Florida International Golden Panthers on Saturday as both teams are set to open up their 2014 college seasons, as they both look to get their 1st win of the season.

Bethune-Cookman is coming off a strong season last year finishing the season with a 10-3 record, finishing with a 7-1 record within the MEAC conference of the FCS subdivision. The wildcats also lost the only game that they played against the FBS top 25. FIU, however, is coming off a terrible season in which they finished 1-11, with a record of 1-7 within the FBS subdivision’s Conference USA.

The Wildcats are looking to continue the success of last season, and continue to assert themselves as a strong team within the FCS and the MEAC. Beating FIU will be a nice start for the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, as they hope to get their season off to a strong start.

FIU has a lot of work to do if they hope to begin their climb back to relevance in the Conference USA, and the FBS. One of the reasons the Golden Panthers struggled so mightily was their atrocious defense, which allowed an average of 37.0 points per game, earning the rank of 113th in overall scoring defense in the FBS rankings. Even considering their struggles on defense, their offense was even worse, finishing dead last in the FBS rankings at 125th, averaging scoring just 9.8 points per game,

While in most situations, the FCS team is considered an underdog against the FBS team, in this case, it’s hard to call a victory by Bethune-Cookman an upset. The Wildcats will certainly be a tough match for FIU at the minimum, and I believe they will have enough in the tank to beat FIU.

Bethune-Cookman takes this one 31-10
