Bledisloe Cup 2014: South Africa Will Dominate Argentina

South Africa Will Dominate Argentina

The second match that kicks off the Rugby Championship of 2014 will feature Argentina visiting South Africa in Pretoria.

Most of the attention will be in Sydney Australia with the Wallabies hosting New Zealand, and arguably so.

The last time South Africa hosted Argentina, the Springboks scored 70 points to defeat the Pumas by 60.

Do not expect South Africa to do that again to Argentina, but the Springboks should dominate the match from start to finish.

Argentina looked disjointed and lacking inspiration in their November Test of last year. The team does not have game breakers that can clinch a match that is tight, which is not good to have when entering a tournament with the three top sides in the world.

Individually the talents Argentina has are strong. Marcelo Bosch played outstanding a year ago, as did Pablo Matera. Juan Martin Lobbe is not the captain any longer, but remains a world class player.

However, the big question is does Argentina have the key personnel to matchup with the likes of first South Africa, much less the powers of Australia and New Zealand.

For now that answer remains no.

The absence of Benjamin Macome at No. 8 will hurt, as Juan Imhoff is excellent at finishing, but Argentina is known for threatening but never delivering.

Therefore, the club needs creativity and that could be hard to find in the club that will face South Africa.

For South Africa, the back three of Willie le Roux, Cornal Hendricks and Bryan Habana can match up against any other club worldwide for pace as well as finishing.

Damian de Allende gets his first Test cap at 22 and will feature alongside his club mate the veteran Jean de Villiers, who returns to captain the squad.
