Brett Keisel Signs With Pittsburgh Steelers

Brett KeiselWhile one of the primary focuses of the Pittsburgh Steelers offseason has been bringing in younger talent on the defense in order to help the Steelers defense be improved for the years to come, but the Steelers still made the decision to bring back the popular defensive end Brett Keisel.

According to ESPN’s Adam Shefter, Keisel and the Steelers have agreed to a deal that will keep the veteran defensive end in Pittsburgh, much to the joy of fans.

Keisel has been an unrestricted free agent since March of this year and was hoping to return to the Steelers for a 13th season, but had begun to garner interest from the Arizona Cardinals after the Cardinals lost Darnell Dockett for the season when he tore his ACL at practice Monday.

The interest from the Cardinals may have been what finally forced the Steelers into action to bring Keisel back, even though they signed free agent Cam Thomas to a 2 year $4 million contract, and used their second round pick on Stephon Tuitt to get younger at the defensive end position.

The Steelers will likely employ a rotation at defensive end that will include Keisel, along with Thomas, Tuitt, and back up Cameron Hayward at right defensive end.

Keisel was an important part of the Steelers teams during their two most recent Superbowl championships and holds a special place in the hearts of Steelers fans.

Standing at 6’6″, and weighing in at 285 pounds, Keisel is a monster of a man who the Steelers drafted in the 7th round of the 2002 draft, finally earning a starting spot in 2006.

Keisel is partly famous for his beard which he grew and shaved during the offseason to raise money for charity.

With Keisel signed, he will enjoy a 13th season in the NFL, all played with the Steelers, a somewhat rare feat in today’s NFL.
