Buccaneers Doug Martin, Gerald McCoy Likely Out Against Falcons

Gerald McCoyWhen the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit the Atlanta Falcons tonight it’s very likely running back Doug Martin and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy will not be active  according to Ian Rappaport of NFL media. McCoy suffered a broken hand in last Sunday’s loss to the St. Louis Rams and is in a cast.

The team had hoped McCoy would be able to play with a cast, but the quick turnaround and only four days to recover may prevent him from playing this week.

This will be  the second straight game that Martin has missed because ending knee injury.  Bobby Rainey, Martin’s replacement had 174 total yards of offense in his place and will likely get the lions share of playing time against the Falcons as well.

Replacing McCoy is a much more difficult proposition for Tampa Bay. Da’Quan Bowers and Akeem Spence will see more playing time.  The Atlanta Falcons high-powered offense presents a problem for Tampa Bay’s defense especially with McCoy on the sideline.

Matt Ryan quarterback for the Falcons,  thinks no matter what line up Tampa Bay brings it will be a challenge.

“Any time you play in the division, we talk about it counts one-plus,” Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said. “We’ve got some work to do before Thursday night. We’ve got to get ready to play the way that we’re capable of.”

Both players are expected to test their respective injuries in pregame to be sure they can’t play.
