David Ortiz Adds Another Chapter to Rays, Red Sox Rivalry

Red Sox NewsThe Rays and Red Sox completed a three game set Sunday, with the Red Sox taking the final game of the series, snapping the Rays 9 game win streak.

More than the result, however, is another round of verbal sparring that took place after the game and into today.

David Ortiz hit his 25th HR of the year, a 3 run blast, off of Chris Archer which accounted for all of the Red Sox offense in game. The issue came with Ortiz’s exaggerated bat flip along with his long trot around the bases.

Archer commented, ” I don’t know what makes him think that he can showboat the way he does and then nobody retaliate, nobody look at him a funny way or nobody pitch him inside. ”

This is just another incident between David Ortiz and the Rays pitching staff.

Ortiz and Rays pitcher David Price were engaged in their own war of words, after Price plugged Ortiz in a match up in May.

While nothing has broken out on the field in this recent series between the Rays and Sox, it is only likely to add more fuel to the fire of this rivalry that has really become one of the MLB’s most active in recent years.

The squads face off again in a 4 game set at the Trop on Labor Day weekend.
