Johnny Being Johnny ? – Manziel Flips Off Washington Bench

Johnny Manziel 2Rookie quarterback for the Cleveland Browns Johnny Manziel flipped off the Washington Redskins bench after an incompletion the young quarterback threw in the 3rd quarter of Monday’s preseason game.

The play after which the incident occurred, happened in front of the Redskins bench and Manziel said that he exchanged words with some players on the redskins bench before he displayed the obscene gesture.

“I felt like I did a good job of holding my composure throughout the night, and you have a lapse of judgment and slip up,” Manziel said. When asked if he though the gesture was wrong, Manziel chuckled and then said, “I mean, I didn’t think it was positive,” but did go on to add that there was no distraction to blame, he simply lost his composure.

Manziel was not flagged for the incident, but will almost certainly be subject to a fine from the NFL.

“It did not sit well,” said Browns head coach Mike Pettine. “I was informed of it after the game and it’s disappointing. Because what we talk about is being poised and being focused — that you have to be able to maintain your poise.”

While the Redskins certainly were not taking it easy on the rookie quarterback, and had mocked him some in the game before the incident occurred. Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo made Manziel’s money gesture to the quarterback after a teammate recorded a sack, then again when they forced the punt.

The display Manziel put on during Sunday’s game was anything, but professional. Something Manziel will have to learn in this league is that the cameras are always watching, and even if they weren’t, that kind of behavior is unacceptable. Manziel has a lot of maturing to do before he is ready to take on the mantle of the Browns starting quarterback.
