Michael Sam Clears Waivers, Free to Sign With any Team

Michael SamRookie Michael Sam has cleared waivers meaning he is a free -agent and can sign with any team or any practice squad. Its likely, he’d stay with the Rams, who gave him a chance this summer to make the team, despite having one of the league’s best and deepest defensive lines.

Sam was waived yesterday. He still believes he can play in the NFL  even though he did not make the 53 man roster. Sam has a built in loyalty for taking a chance on him this summer thanked the Rams for the opportunity.

“I want to thank the entire Rams organization and the city of St. Louis for giving me this tremendous opportunity and allowing me to show I can play at this level. I look forward to continuing to build on the progress I made here toward a long and successful career,” Sam wrote.

For whatever teams signs him he will be making history as as the first openly gay player on an NFL roster.

“There will be no challenge, no challenges whatsoever,” for whatever team picks up Sam, Rams coach Jeff Fisher said at a news conference Saturday. “I will tell you this: I was pulling for Mike,” he said. “I really was, and I don’t say that very often. Mike came in here and did everything we asked him to do.”
