Nats Rough Up Mariners Felix Hernandez


felix hernandezIt’s not often that Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez has an off night, but he did against the Washington Nationals. The Nationals homered four times off Hernandez in beating the Mariners 8-3.

Ian Desmond, Anthony Rendon, Wilson Ramos and Jayson Werth homered off King Felix and Bryce Harper added another off reliever Joe Beimal.

Hernandez lasted seven innings and was charged with five runs and 10 hits. He is 0-2 with a 5.09 ERA in his last three starts.

Jordan Zimmermann (10-5) was strong for Washington and struck out eight in six innings for Washington. He allowed two runs and seven hits while improving to 4-0 in six August starts.

Zimmerman threw 33 pitched in teh first inning before settling down.

“I was a little strong the first, second inning. Fastball was up and I couldn’t get it down,” Zimmermann said. “Throwing that many pitches helped me a little bit.”

Stephen Strasburg (10-10) starts for Washington tonight. He got a no-decision in his last start against San Francisco giving up five earned runs in four innings.

Washington sits comforably on top of the National League East with a six game lead over Atlanta.

Meanwhile, Seattle is a game out of the wild card race in the American League
