NFL: Redskins vs Texans Preview

texansThe Washington Redskins are set to kick off this season on Sunday when they travel to take on the Houston Texans in a game that both teams want to win in order to get their seasons started off on the right foot.

The Redskins enter this season looking to rebound from a less than stellar 2013 season in which they failed to make the playoffs after quarterback Robert Griffin III led them to the postseason in his rookie season. RG3 suffered a severe knee injury in those playoffs and didn’t look as explosive as he had been in his rookie season. If the Redskins want to make it back into the playoffs, they will have to do so in the NFC East, where they will have to overcome the explosive Philadelphia offense, as well as the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. If they are to bounce back, RG3 will have to show serious improvement.

The Texans, who open the season at home Sunday, are also looking to have a bounce back season this year. After playing into the playoffs in the 2012 season, they collapsed in 2013, playing to the worst record in the NFL, and earning them the 1st overall pick. The Texans took South Carolina defensive standout Jadaveon Clowney with that pick as they work toward improving their defense in an effort to rebound. The Texans will have to overcome the Jacksonville Jaguars,  the Tennessee Titans, and Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South if they hope to return to the playoffs.

The line for this game is set at Houston -2.5, and the over/under is at 45.5.

The Redskins would love to take this one on the road, but the improved pass rush of the Texans will make RG3 uncomfortable, making it easier for Houston to get the win. Texans win 24-13.
