Notre Dame Removes 4 Players During Academic Investigation

notre dameAn internal being done by Notre Dame into the academic fraud has resulted in the Irish losing 4 key players as a result of the investigation.

In a statement issued Friday, Notre Dame has confirmed that, “the University of Notre Dame is investigating suspected academic dishonesty on the part of several students, including four members of the football team.” Those players “will be held out of practice and competition until the conclusion of an ongoing investigation and the University honor code process.”

It was later reported that 4 players were being held out of Notre Dame’s Friday practice. Those players were, wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, cornerback KeiVarae Russell, linebacker Kendall Moore, and defensive end Ishaq Williams.

The University, however, did not comment as to the reasons those players were held from practice, but CBS Sports affiliate Jeremy Fowler confirmed that these players were being held out of practice as they had been removed from the team.

Fowler tweeted that he, “Can confirm reports 4 ND players removed from team while school conducts investigation. Awaiting word on whether they have chance to return.”

Notre Dame has confirmed that the NCAA is fully aware of the Irish’s internal investigation and, if the NCAA determines that these players were ineligible for games they’ve already participated in, Notre Dame will voluntarily vacate the victories in any of those games.

“The University is committed to thorough resolution of this matter, consistent with its commitment to academic integrity and adherence to NCAA rules,” said Notre Dame President, Rev. John I Jenkins on the issue.

Losing some of these key contributors will be difficult for the Irish this coming season. Beginning the season ranked at number 13, if the Irish look to make a push into the newly established playoff system, they’re going to need to overcome these loses to have any chance.
