PGA Championship: Rory McIlroy Wins 4th Major

Rory McIlroyRory McIlroy sank a 10 inch putt as night began to fall to win the PGA Championship, his 2nd straight major and 4th major overall.

With the final major coming to an end, Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler, and Henrik Stenson all had a share of the lead on the back 9.

McIlroy certainly had to work hard in order to secure the win in the tournament, and help solidify him as one of the next big names in golf.

“It is the most satisfying,” McIlroy said. “To win it in this fashion and this style, it means a lot. It means that I know that I can do it. I know that I can come from behind. I know that I can mix it up with the best players in the world down the stretch in a major and come out on top.”

The final shot of the evening for McIlroy was for par, and it would be one of the easiest shots he faced on a very tough day. When he sank the par that gave him a 3 under finish for the day, securing the victory over Mickelson by a single stroke.

Rory McIlroy is now part of an elite club of golfers who have all won 4 majors before the age of 25. The other golfers in this elite club are Bobby Jones, Tiger Woods, and Jack Nicklaus, 3 of the greatest doctors to ever play.

“I didn’t think in my wildest dreams I’d have a summer like this,” said McIlroy, only the seventh player to win the last two majors of the year. “I played the best golf of my life. I really gutted it out today.”

McIlroy is quickly solidifying himself as one of the best players in the game today. We’ll have to wait for next year before McIlroy to try and add more majors to his collection.
