Portland State vs Oregon State Preview

Oregon StateThe Portland State Vikings are preparing for Saturday’s season opening game against the Oregon State Beaver in a contest that both squads would love to win, especially the Vikings, who are looking to pull off the upset.

Portland State finished last season with a 6-6 record, winning 3 of the 8 games they played within the Big Sky Conference of the FCS subdivision. They also didn’t face any teams within the FBS top 25 last season.

Oregon State, on the other side of the field, finished last season with an overall record of 7-6 while also accumulating 4 of those wins in the 9 games that Oregon State played within their PAC 12 conference. The Beavers lost all 3 of the games that they played against teams in the top 25 in the FBS last season.

For Portland State, a victory over another in-state team, especially one within the FBS would be a major victory, and show the rest of the Big Sky conference and the FCS that they are a team that should be considered threatening if they are found on the schedule. The Vikings hope to improve upon last seasons performance and assert themselves as a legitimate threat within the FCS this season.

Oregon State is also looking to improve upon their performance from last year as they hope to become a force to be reckoned with in the high powered PAC 12. The Beavers posted the 30th ranked scoring offense in the FBS last year scoring 34.8 points per game. The Beavers did, however, struggle on defense, allowing an average of 31.4 points per game, earning them the ranking of 91st overall in the FBS in scoring defense.

The Beavers will be able to handle the Vikings with relative ease, overpowering them offensively. The Beavers will come out of top 42-17.
