Rugby News: James Hanson to Fill Number Two

James HansonThe latest member of the Wallabies to fill the No. 2 jersey will be James Hanson the Reds hooker who hopes to avoid the injury curse at that spot.

Tatafu Polota-Nau, Stephen Moore and Nathan Charles have all suffered injury giving Hanson a shot that he is most grateful for.

Charles was ruled out by an injury to his chest after the hooker impressed during his opening matches versus the All Blacks. Because of that, Hanson has been promoted to Australia’s starting XV.

Hanson jokingly told reporters that hookers were a rare commodity in rugby in Australia presently.

The unfortunate thing about our sport, said Hanson, is injuries. However, on the flip side of that, it presents new opportunities for others and if that opportunity presents itself he would be extremely appreciative.

Hanson commented that he had been with the squad for some years now and had only appeared in games a few minutes, and will take advantage of this opportunity given to him.

While he said you take any minute you can, to start is at the pinnacle of why we play rugby, especially when it comes to representing you country.

Wary of the possibility of a strong lineout by Springbok, Hanson believes the signal callers will be able to cope.

He says you are always looking to challenge yourself in rugby and there is no greater challenge than to play against the world’s best.

We have super callers in players like Rob Simmons along with jumpers such as Sam Carter and Scott Fardy. For me, said Hanson, I put my entire trust in my teammates and just focus on the job at hand that I have to do.

He said if Matfield is able to get in there, then all the credit to him, but strategies have been developed around that.

Australia will face South Africa this weekend and will be facing some of the best talent in the world, which could make for an exciting game.
