Teddy Bridgewater Era Set To Begin For Minnesota Vikings

teddy bridgewaterThe Minnesota Vikings placed quarterback Matt Cassel  on injured reserve paving the way for  rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to be the full-time starter in Minnesota. Cassel Broke several bones in his left foot Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

Bridgewater made his NFL debut Sunday in relief of Cassel, completing 12 of 20 passes for 150 yards and running six times for another 27 yards in the Vikings’ 20-9 loss.

“I thought he was very composed with everything,” said  Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, who now moves Christian Ponder from third string to second. “I didn’t see any panic. … I believe that he’s going to be very good (quarterback).”

“(Cassel’s) our starting quarterback, but it’s time for Teddy to step up and fill that leadership role, and I think he’ll do a good job,” said Vikings tackle Matt Kalil. “I definitely think he’s ready.”

It will be tough for Bridgewater. The Vikings running game is pretty much nonexistent with the loss of star running back Adrian Peterson likely being done for the season following a September 12 indictment in Texas on a charge of child abuse.

The ever confident Bridgwater doesn’t seem concerned.

“Moving forward, I think I am definitely going to be ready,” Bridgewater said. “I just need to get more practice reps throughout the week. As a backup, it’s all about getting mental reps during the week. But now we have seven days to prepare for Atlanta, so we have time to develop that chemistry with the guys and be able to be a better quarterback.”
